New Jersey and New York Pool Leak Detection, Questions and Answers.
Q – What can cause a pool leak?
A – Pool leaks can be caused by several factors. Pool leaks in the liner of a vinyl pool can be caused by sharp objects or toys in a pool causing the liner to puncture or tear. Age can be a cause of a leak in a vinyl liner. Emptying the water from a liner pool can cause the liner to tear. This is sometimes due to the liner shrinking and re-stretching when emptied and re-filled. Concrete or Gunite pools can leak directly through the shell, but most leaks are found in the fittings, skimmers, tile line or the equipment. Ground shifting and tree roots can cause pool leaks in the underground pool plumbing. Normal wear and tear on the pool equipment can cause leaks in those parts as well. Some equipment and parts may just wear out and begin to leak. 80% of pool leaks are minor and can be patched using underwater patches, epoxies or sealants.
